  • Stop by your local post office, library, city or town clerks office

Register to Vote Online

  • Facilitated Through the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles: Click Here
  • To register you will need:
    • your New York State DMV issued driver license, permit or Non-Driver ID
      • it must be your most recently issued document – you will need the ID Number and document number (See Sample Documents)
    • the ZIP Code currently on record with the DMV 
    • the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN)


To register to vote in New York State you must:

  • be a U.S. citizen;
  • be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which you file this form (note: you must be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary or other election in which you want to vote);
  • live at your present address at least 30 days before an election;
  • not be in jail for a felony conviction and;
  • not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
  • *NEW* pre-registration can begin at the age of 16;

2020 Voter Registration, Enrollment, and Address Change

The Political Party Change of Enrollment Deadline for 2020 Presidential Primary Elections is February 14, 2020.   Any political Party change made after February 14, 2020 will not take effect until after the Primary Election of 2020.

2020 Political Calendar


          Polls Open from 6 am to 9 pm in Ulster County

  • Last Day to Register to vote for the General Election is October 9
  • Change of address for General must be received by October 14th in order to be processed
  • Last Day to Postmark an Absentee Ballot Application for the General Election is October 27
  • Last Day to apply in person for Absentee Ballot for General Election is November 2
  • Last Day to Postmark an Absentee Ballot return envelope is Tuesday November 3
  • Last Day to Deliver an Absentee Ballot in person to the Ulster County BOE or any of our poll sites is Tuesday November 3rd before the polls close at 9 pm.
